Job Description

About the Organization

Our client is a community-based addictions recovery organization dedicated to restoring lives, strengthening families, and supporting long-term recovery. Their work is grounded in respect, accountability, cultural awareness, and evidence-informed practice.

The programs bring together best practices from Western clinical models alongside culturally informed approaches that honour connection, responsibility, and community. The organization serves individuals, families, and communities and is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for recovery, learning, and growth.

Experience interacting with Indigenous communities is preferred.

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) provides strategic, operational, and people leadership for a residential addictions recovery centre and its supporting programs. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is accountable for advancing the organization’s mission, ensuring financial sustainability, and delivering high-quality, culturally grounded services.

This role requires a leader who can balance vision with execution—someone who is comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels and who brings strong experience in addictions, mental health, or healthcare leadership. The ED works closely with the Board, the Clinical Director, staff, funders, and community partners to ensure effective service delivery and long-term organizational success.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Governance

  • Provide executive leadership in the development and implementation of organizational strategy, operational plans, and financial priorities approved by the Board
  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to advance long-term vision, accountability, and governance effectiveness
  • Maintain proactive, transparent communication with the Board, including:
  • Regular written and verbal reporting
  • Early identification and escalation of risks or emerging issues
  • Consultation on strategic, financial, and operational matters
  • Represent the organization with funders, partners, regulators, and community stakeholders

Operational Management

  • Lead and support the senior leadership team, including the Clinical Director
  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality recovery services
  • Evaluate operational systems and workflows and implement continuous improvements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, accreditation standards, and funder requirements
  • Maintain organizational records, reporting systems, and documentation

Financial Stewardship

  • Ensure operations remain within approved budgets and align with strategic priorities
  • Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and financial risk
  • Approve expenditures within delegated authority
  • Provide the Board with timely financial reports, forecasts, and analysis

People Leadership & Culture

  • Determine staffing requirements to support effective program delivery
  • Lead recruitment, retention, performance management, and succession planning
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture
  • Support staff development, coaching, and leadership growth
  • Ensure a healthy and safe work environment in compliance with WorkSafeBC and other regulatory requirements

Policy, Compliance & Risk

  • Monitor relevant legislation, regulations, and standards impacting operations
  • Develop, review, and update organizational policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Recommend governance or policy enhancements to the Board as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Promote strong internal relationships across clinical, operational, and administrative teams
  • Support positive relationships with clients, families, and community partners
  • Perform other related duties as required

Confidentiality & Privacy

This role requires access to sensitive personal, clinical, and organizational information. The Executive Director must uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy legislation and organizational policies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Master’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field such as health administration, social work, public health, psychology, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare, addictions, mental health, or residential care setting. Minimum 5 years of experience working within addictions and/or mental health services. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams. Strong financial management experience, including oversight of complex or multi-source budgets. Proven ability to work effectively with Boards of Directors and diverse stakeholders. Strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and recovery-oriented service delivery. Knowledge of employment legislation, HR best practices, and workplace health and safety requirements. Excellent analytical, planning, communication, and decision-making skills

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with or within First Nations, Indigenous, or culturally distinct communities
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultural values, governance structures, and community-based service models
  • Experience operating in a regulated or accredited care environment

What We Offer

  • Salary up to $200,000
  • Employer-paid benefits
  • Pension matching up to 9%
  • Paid vacation and statutory leave
  • A purpose-driven leadership role in a culturally grounded, community-focused environment
  • A unique opportunity to shape and lead meaningful addictions recovery services
